HELLO DEAR READERS!

A birthday party like no other

WHAT a better way to celebrate your son’s birthday than to share it with the less fortunate.
A young couple here, who wished to remain anonymous, certainly brought joy and excitement to some 40 children when they took their one-year-old son to the Salvation Army Penang Children’s Home in Jalan Logan, George Town, to celebrate his birthday.

A party planner was even brought in to try and give the party themed ‘Thomas the Train’ a more atmospheric setting.
“It is better to share our joy with the less fortunate as I find that they tend to appreciate the little things in life.
“I first encountered the children at a Christmas do at G Hotel last year. They were then given three wishes hung on a Christmas tree and they just asked for a very basic and simple things like shoes, pants, inexpensive toys and things that other children tend to take for granted,” said the mother, who declined to be named.
The children were treated to a sumptuous spread of Kentucky Fried Chicken, various flavoured cakes, cupcakes, candies, ice-cream and also had fun making their own candy floss from a machine.

They were also entertained by a clown called Creampuff, who performed a magic show and balloon sculpture, much to the delight of the children and guests.
The home’s superintendent Major M. Kamala praised the initiative by the family to hold the function at the home, saying that all the children there had a great time.
One of the children, T, Langesh, 13, said that he really enjoyed the party as it was ‘good fun’.
“I love all the food, the clown and also the ice cream. I’ve not had so much fun in a long time,” he said.
Guests who turned up also brought contributions in the form of rice and cooking oil for the home.
“I told my guests to bring something for the home as a donation,” said the mother.
