while most folks dread weekdays to the max having to work, wear formal n face terrible jams. i dread weekends! when others play, sleep n watch movies i go entertain them n work myself to the bone. life is never fair so ur job n my job is OK-lah!

and so i just suffered a bad case of" hong mok"---WHAT? momok u say? nolar not the malay ghost that comes to haunt u at night..its a hokkien version saying of:

Hives!!

oh, not bee kinda hives..but rather more like..

Hives are raised, often itchy, red welts on the surface of the skin. They are usually an allergic reaction to food or medicine.

Causes, incidence, and risk factors

When you have an allergic reaction to a substance, your body releases histamine and other chemicals into your bloodstream. This causes itching, swelling, and other symptoms. Hives are a common reaction, especially in people with other allergies such as hay fever.
When swelling or welts occur around the face, especially the lips and eyes, it is called angioedema. Swelling from angioedema can also occur around your hands, feet, and throat.
Many substances can trigger hives, including:
  • Animal dander (especially cats)
  • Insect bites
  • Medications
  • Pollen
  • Shellfish, fish, nuts, eggs, milk, and other foods
Hives may also develop as a result of:
  • Emotional stress
  • Extreme cold or sun exposure
  • Excessive perspiration
  • Illness (including lupus, other autoimmune diseases, and leukemia
  • Infections such as mononucleosis

Symptoms

  • Itching
  • Swelling of the surface of the skin into red- or skin-colored welts (called wheals) with clearly defined edges
The welts may get bigger, spread, and join together to form larger areas of flat, raised skin.
They can also change shape, disappear, and reappear within minutes or hours.
The welts tend to start suddenly and go away quickly. When you press the center of a red welt, it turns white. This is called blanching.

Signs and tests

Your doctor can tell if you have hives by looking at your skin.
If you have a history of an allergy, then the diagnosis is even more obvious.
Occasionally, skin or blood tests are done to confirm that you had an allergic reaction and to test for the substance that caused the allergic response.

Treatment

Treatment may not be needed if the hives are mild. They may disappear on their own. To reduce itching and swelling:
  • Avoid hot baths or showers.
  • Avoid irritating the area with tight-fitting clothing.
  • Take antihistamines. Diphenhydramine is considered the most effective.
If your reaction is severe, especially if the swelling involves your throat, you may require an emergency shot of epinephrine (adrenaline) or steroids. Hives in the throat can block your airway, making it difficult to breathe.

MINE WAS ALL OVER MY FACE n a little on the legs. for 3 days i fought back the urge to scratch my skin like a monkey with dandruff...the itch haunted me while i slept, ate and did everything!
the itch drove me mad..like how drug addicts go into cold turkey stage.
it came to one point i said to HELL with this crap and i went out with medication on! ( a girl gotta eat u know)

calamaine lotion, i remember using this all the way during childhood rashes n stuff

a kind of antihistamine to keep me alive in case it blocks my airway n  my COD says" died of self chocking"

helo madwoman

i bet no girl in her sane mind would even walk out to see the neighbour with this kinda face.

nolar i dont have slim, smooth silky legs. the advert models all tipu wan.

i HAD to eat rite? so i just went to some malay restaurant by the beach. Many people staring at me k?
i kept telling myself, like clowning with so much crap on ur face NOBODY will recognize u! its true!

and i STILL HAD to go work by painting more poison unto my face during hong mok season..

bak kut teh and Creampuff in Jawi pasar malam promoting Astro
So life does go on whether u have a rash o not, its diff when u live alone. nobody to fuss over u and check o ur condition like mummy at home. Roomie was nice to keep asking "wanna see doctor ah?" but while working it was  like - "Elo clown can u find the pasar malam o not? ur late!"

But i survived the few days and TADAH!! all swell and well now! =)

words of wisdom: AVOID ALL THINGS U CANNOT EAT or COME INTO CONTACT!
u NEVER WANNA SUFFER HAVING HIVES and go out looking all red, bloated n mad like me..bzz bzzz
